Regular Reports

02/04/12 Nar Valley Fisheries coarse fish season closed at the weekend with a flurry of big Carp from the waters. We were only one reported thirty pound plus Carp away from our target 40 fish. Three thirties in the last week were banked from Lake Geneva; Tommy Pope with a 30lb Common, Leighton Grove a 32lb Mirror, and Rob Davies also a 32lb Mirror. Twenty pound plus fish were also landed from Fenn Lake, Willow Pool, and Lake Geneva.

19/03/12 We are entering the last two weeks of the current coarse season at the Nar Valley Fisheries complex but the big Carp continue to be caught. To date we have had 36 reported Carp over 30lb this season. Lake Geneva is the venue for a last minute specimen; Nick Durant of Exeter banked the largest Carp of the week a superb Mirror of 29lb 4oz, not quite a thirty but a lovely fish all the same.

The fish in Hobbs lake, the new trout fishery, are now showing well mostly mornings and evening with the hatches of black gnats taking place on a regular basis. Suffice to say members are finding some good action on nymphs and buzzers suspended just below the surface in the activity areas, with Rainbows between 1.5lb and 3lb this is a recipe for some great sport.

13/03/12 A few more anglers were out this week on the coarse lakes at the Nar Valley Fisheries complex taking advantage of the weather in the last month of the season. The fish were not feeding as well as last week, but Lake Geneva has been good for Carp from mid-double figures to thirty pounds plus. Ian Jarrold, fishing Lake Geneva, added another 31lb 10oz Mirror Carp to his impressive tally of fish for this season. Fenn lake is worth a go with Carp from mid-double figures to 26lb being reported. Members are reminded the renewal notices are out and should be returned by 31st March to guarantee your permit for next season.

04/03/12 The spring-like weather on the first day of March has sparked the Nar Valley Fisheries complex fish into action. The new Hobbs lake Trout fishery was opened by John Wilson MBE on the 1st March. A few members wet a line during the morning and all had the opportunity to bank a fish. Mark Redhead was the first to score with a nice 'stockie' Rainbow followed closely by one of the few Brown trout. John also added to the daily tally with another 'stockie' Rainbow. No big fish were caught on the day but a number were seen rising throughout the morning.

On the coarse fish front, the change in the weather and the change of the month has persuaded the Carp to feed well. The first fish out was a lovely 31lb Common Carp landed by Mark Thorpe from Fenn Lake. Lake Geneva has also woken up, with Ian Jarrold banking a superb 31lb Mirror from the venue. A few other Carp have been landed in the mid-twenties range including a 34lb 8oz Mirror by an unknown member.

27/02/12 Pike have been the most prolific sport at the Nar Valley Fisheries complex this week. Fenn lake, Johns Pond and Lake Geneva have all produced Pike to mid double figures. The Carp have been very quiet this week and with the weather improving the prospects are good for this weekend.
